Joint Diseases
Whether walking, grasping, bending or turning - the joints
in the human body are involved in all movements. At the same time, throughout life, countless stress and strain is placed upon them. As such, wear and tear represents a normal aging process which not only arises in relation to the large joints such as the shoulder, hip and knee joints, but also the small joints – e.g. in relation to the feet and toes.
In many of those patients affected, advanced wear (known as osteoarthritis) arises in the form of pain and movement restrictions. But even short-term overloads or inflammatory diseases such as rheumatism can lead to joint problems. Therefore, before any treatment, a thorough diagnosis is necessary in order to clarify the exact cause.
In the case of fresh injuries to bones, tendons or ligaments, treatment should start as early as possible, as otherwise long-term sequelae may occur, e.g. increased wear.
On the following pages we would like to give you an initial overview of joint diseases and their treatment.
